Do I really need water treatment equipment or are they just trying to sell me something?

This is a question you should know the answer to before making the decision.

Here is some information to help you make the correct decision.

1) Have your water tested at home. Not from a test bottle left on your door knob.

2) Watch the test being performed and ask questions.

3) The basic water analysis should reveal the pH of the water, Hardness of the water, Iron content (both ferrous & ferric )

The TDS (total dissolved solids) Sulfur, iron bacteria, sediment and possibly manganese.

NOTE- The separation of iron is very important.

4) After this information is available the proper recommendations (if any) can be made.

Example ;  water analysis =  pH = 6.2 (very aggressive towards copper , brass , water heaters Especially tankless w/ copper heat exchangers) and fixtures ) There will be a blue/green stain on sinks and tubs.-This is copper sulfate staining.

Hardness = 8 grains per gallon -This is moderately hard

Iron = .1 ppm (part per million) 50% ferreous / 50% ferric

TDS = 115 ppm this is considered low, but common with a low pH

Sulfur = Not detectable

Iron bacteria = Not present (this is usually detected by looking inside of a regularly used toilet tank. it

Looks like an oily slime floating on top of the water surface.

Sediment is visible in bottom of several toilet tanks. Approx. 25 micron in particle size.

Manganese = Not detectable. This is a more invalided test requiring a lab. But if present it usually shows up,

As a dark chocolate color inside the dishwasher, as heat acts as a catalyst.

Recommended Water Treatment is as follows;

1- Acid neutralizer –Media is Calcite–size depends on application –2 1/2 cubic ft. unit is the norm.

1- Water right Sanitizer Plus w/ KDF

1- 1″ by 20″ MAZ cartridge
